Dalam Hindu dikenal ada 108 Upanishad, terkait Mitologi Bhagawan Walmiki yang ketika masih walaka bernama Ratnakara pernah merampok 108 Pendeta, namun ketika akan menganiaya Pendeta yang ke 109 yang ternyata penyamaran Dewa Siva, Ratnakara menjadi sadar dan bertobat, kemudian beliau disuruh ber-Japa selama 100 tahun.

Setelah masa itu lampau, Ratnakara disudhi menjadi Bhagawan Walmiki.
Jadi angka 108 dalam hal ini adalah tonggak kesadaran dan permohonan ampun atas dosa-dosa yang lalu. [/font]

Selanjutnya 108 banyak dijumpai seperti dalam Yoga misalnya ada 108 jenis Mudra. Kita juga berjapa dengan Genitri berjumlah 108 (seratus delapan).

Mengenai penggunaan angka 108 adalah unik dan sakral, karena jika dijumlahkan 1+0+8 = 9, setengahnya 54 jika dijumlah: 5+4 = 9, dan seperempatnya " 2+7=9.

Angka 9 adalah angka tertinggi, dan angka 9 juga menunjukkan kedudukan Hyang Widhi dalam lingkaran arah mata angin : Timur (Purwa) sebagai Ishwara, Tenggara (Agneya) sebagai Mahesora, Selatan (Daksina) sebagai Brahma, Barat daya (Nairity) sebagai Rudra, Barat (Pascima) sebagai Mahadewa, Barat laut (Wayabya) sebagai Sangkara, Utara (Uttara) sebagai Wisnu, Timur laut (Airsaniya) sebagai Sambhu, dan Tengah-tengah sebagai (Siwa-Sada Siwa-Parama Siwa).

Dalam Lontar "Tutur Panus Karma" kekuatan Hyang Widhi yang tidak berwujud disebut "Nyama Bajang" jumlahnya 108 dengan berbagai nama, sedangkan yang berwujud disebut "Kanda Pat" yaitu: ari-ari, getih, lamas dan yeh nyom.

Demikian juga Anugerah Siwa kepada Lubdhaka pada saat panglong kaping patwelas terjadi secara kebetulan jumlah daun maja yang dipetiknya hingga fajar berjumlah 108 lembar itu jatuh di atas lingga dari Dewa Siwa (sesuai 108 Nama Dewa Siwa).

Secara keseluruhan dapat dikatakan bahwa Lubdhaka secara kebetulan melaksanakan brata Siwaratri, semua itu tidak mengurangi keinginan Siwa untuk memberikan anugerah kepada Lubdhaka. Meskipun dalam sepanjang hidupnya Lubdhaka dipenuhi oleh perbuatan jahat, membunuh binatang tanpa dosa, dan tidak pernah melaksanakan brata. Rupanya malam Siwa sungguh-sungguh merupakan malam yang istimewa, dan tidak ada seorang pun yang memperoleh keberuntungan, suatu anugerah yang demikian besar selain Lubdhaka.


TILEM KASANGA (TAWUR KESANGA) memakai segehan nasi sasab 108 tanding, katur kepada Sang Bhuta Kala dan Sang Kala Raja, bermakna Jadi pelaksanaan keikhlasan berkorban agar hidup kita seimbang.

Hal yang menarik lainnya 108 digunakan pula dalam ritual agama lain yang intinya ajaran Non Violence, Kasih, Sabar dan lain sebagainya sangat sesuai dengan ajaran Budha dan Hindu, serta anugrah (Siwa-Sada Siwa-Parama Siwa).
