Seven development projects planned by the House of Representatives (DPR) at the legislative complex in Senayan, South Jakarta, will cost Rp 1.6 trillion (US$115.5 million), according to an estimate by the Public Works Ministry (PU).

"The figure given [by PU] is Rp 1.6 trillion," said DPR's head of public relations and news bureau Djaka Dwi Wiratno on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

The seven projects will include a museum and a library, the so-called Democracy Square, an access road for guests to the DPR building, a visitor's center, a legislative study room, new rooms for House members and experts and an integrated living and working area for House members.

"The DPR will discuss the PU figures with the government," added Djaka.

According to Djaka, the development of a modern legislative complex is indispensable since the current building is no longer adequate. He said that the number of experts increased each year, yet the facilities stayed stagnant.

"The Nusantara I [building], for example, is over capacity, and it should be rearranged to make it more comfortable and safe," said Djaka.

Previously, the leader of the House's Ways and Means Committee (BURT) Roem Kono said that the budget for the seven development projects would not be added directly into one year of state budget (APBN). They will be planned gradually using a multi-year budget until 2019.

If the 2016 APBN can only offer Rp 100 billion, said Roem, then the DPR will only use that figure. Next year, the projects will be continued based on the budget given by the government.
