The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) has agreed to allow the Jakarta administration and the Public Works Ministry to use its 4-kilometer long plot of land for the expansion and deepening of Sunter River in North Jakarta.

After signing the agreement at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta on Tuesday, TNI AU Operation I Commander Young Marshal M. Syaugi was quoted by kompas.com as saying that the TNI AU no longer used the land for military purposes.

The general director of mineral water resources at the Public Works Ministry, Muhammad Hasan, said that under its revitalization project in cooperation with the Jakarta administration, his ministry would expand the Sunter River from 7.5 meters to 25 meters and deepen it from 2 meters to 8 meters.

“With the revitalization, the river will be able to accommodate the flow of 146 cubic meters of water per second, far more than its current capacity of 40 cubic meters per second,” Hasan said.
