Kk Sinthung,

University was one of the first universities in the world, founded in the 5th Century BC, and reported to have been visited by the Buddha during his lifetime. At its peak, in the 7th century AD, Nalanda held some 10,000 students when it was visited by the Chinese scholar Xuanzang.

Ajahn Brahmavamso

Ajahn.jpg

Ajahn Brahmavamso (also known as Ajahn Brahm) was born in London in 1951. He regarded himself a Buddhist at the age of 17 through his reading of Buddhist books while still at school. His interest in Buddhism and meditation flourished while studying Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University. After completing his degree and teaching for a year, he travelled to Thailand to become a monk. He was ordained in Bangkok at the age of 23 by the Abbot of Wat Saket. Subsequently, he spent 9 years studying and training in the forest meditation tradition of the revered Venerable Ajahn Chah.
In 1983, he was asked to assist in the establishing of a forest monastery near Perth, Western Australia. The monastery, Bodhinyana Monastery, has approximately 20 resident monks. Ajahn Brahm is currently the Abbot of that monastery. He is also the Spiritual Director of the Buddhist Society of W. A, the Spiritual Advisor to the Buddhist Society of Victoria, and the Spiritual Director of the Cittabhavana Buddhist Hermitage in Bundanoon, N.S.W.

Ajahn Brahm also regularly visits prisons in W. A. to teach Buddhism and meditation. A widely travelled speaker, Ajahn Brahm conducts meditation retreats frequently both in Australia and in a number of Asian countries.

aih nalanda sampai seperti itu... duh kacau sekali yg ngancurinnya...

@LomX

A unique Pagoda about 325 feet high, is emerging in Mumbai, India. It's the first of its kind in the world. It's being developed in memory of Sayagyi U Ba Khin.

This Grand Pagoda aims to create greater awareness of Vipassana, the meditation technique now rapidly spreading in over 100 countries, in cultures as diverse as Russia, Iran, Cuba, Germany, Japan, USA. Vipassana is the scientific, non-sectarian self-observation technique re-discovered by Gotama the Buddha, who used it to attain Enlightenment. It's now spreading in its purest form, in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Knin, as taught by S.N. Goenka.

This Pagoda will also enshrine the genuine Buddha relics, at the centre of a large hall that can enable 10,000 Vipassana students to meditate together. Around the hall, Information Galleries will depict historical facts about the Buddha's life, and his true teachings.

This Grand Pagoda is a powerful symbol greeting the new millennium, a celebration of Vipassana again arising in the world after being lost to humanity for centuries.

"Mr. Goenka is a householder teacher of Vipassana meditation in the tradition of the late Sayagyi U Ba Khin of Burma (Myanmar).

Although Indian by descent, Mr. Goenka was born and raised in Burma. While living in Burma he had the good fortune to come into contact with U Ba Khin, and to learn the technique of Vipassana from him. After receiving training from his teacher for fourteen years, Mr. Goenka settled in India and began teaching Vipassana in 1969. In a country still sharply divided by differences of caste and religion, the courses offered by Mr. Goenka have attracted thousands of people from every part of society. In addition, many people from countries around the world have come to join courses in Vipassana meditation.

Mr. Goenka has taught tens of thousands of people in more than 300 courses in India and in other countries, East and West. In 1982 he began to appoint assistant teachers to help him to meet the growing demand for courses. Meditation centres have been established under his guidance in India, Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Burma, Nepal and other countries.

The technique which S.N.Goenka teaches represents a tradition that is traced back to the Buddha. The Buddha never taught a sectarian religion; he taught Dhamma - the way to liberation - which is universal. In the same tradition, Mr. Goenka's approach is totally non-sectarian. For this reason, his teaching has a profound appeal to people of all backgrounds, of every religion and no religion, and from every part of the world."
