thread2 yg lain berat2 uy hardcore science semua, jd g buat thread philosophy yg ringan aja deh
Epicurean paradox
Logical problem of evil

Epicurean paradox
Epicurus adalah yg pertama kali mengemukakan problem of evil, dan menyimpulkan bahwa keberadaan evil (kejahatan) tdk sejalan dengan keberadaan Tuhan."Either God wants to abolish evil, and cannot; or he can, but does not want to. ... If he wants to, but cannot, he is impotent. If he can, but does not want to, he is wicked. ... If, as they say, God can abolish evil, and God really wants to do it, why is there evil in the world?" (Epicurus, as quoted in 2000 Years of Disbelief)
Logical problem of evil
tapi ada satu quote bagus yg g dapet mengenai suffering dan moga2 bs bermanfaat
- God exists (premise)
- God is omnipotent (premise)
- God is benevolent (premise)
- Benevolent beings are opposed to all evil. (premise)
- Benevolent beings will act immediately with no delay. (premise)
- God is opposed to all evil. (conclusion from 3 and 4)
- God can eliminate evil completely and immediately. (conclusion from 2
- God will eliminate evil completely and immediately. (conclusion from 6, 7.2 and 7.3)
- Evil exists, has existed, and probably will always exist. (premise)
- Items 8 and 9 are contradictory; therefore, one or more of the premises is false: either God does not exist, or he is not both omnipotent and benevolent or there is a reason why He does not act immediately.
jadi bagaimana pndpt kalianIn the version of the problem, which we can call the problem of "suffering", I believe that the solution lies largely in perspective and the perception of suffering. I compare us to the child in the grocery store acting like it is on the verge of dying because his or her parent will not buy the candy he or she wants. The child does not know what is good for it and barely understands the meaning of desire. As we grow older we learn that if we really want something then we are willing to work long and hard for it (even suffer for it). Thus in the context of eternal life our "sufferings" in this life may be just as trivial and our complaints as childish as the child in the grocery store.
