It is reported to have grossed in excess of $600m, one a hell of a profit margin, which a ton of mainstream Hollywood films could do with!
Linda Lovelace (real name Linda Susan Boreman, born 1949 in New York) was the first porno superstar, infamous for this film, but never reaching the height of it's success again with any of her other films like Linda Lovelace For President (1976) where a band of officials cannot decide on a presidential candidate until someone jokes about using Linda Lovelace which they then proceed to do. Featuring the presence of Mickey Dolenz from The Monkeys, as a blind (slight exaggeration!), stressed out campaign bus driver.

Adam Film World's Best Picture of the Year are the raves on the front DVD sleeve of VCX's re-release of Robert Mc Callum's SUZIE SUPERSTAR, (1984, Cal Vista) part of VCX's Cal Vista Classic DVD series. This standard frame presentation looks great and the sound is fine.Robert McCallum directed close to 150 titles in the 1970s, 80s and 90s but more than 2/3 of these productions are from after 1985, when many xxx features switched from film to video. So, this DVD re-release should please the many who enjoyed Mc Callum's film work.
The prolific Mc Callum receives both director and cinematographer credit for SUZIE SUPERSTAR and it's a solid all-around film production that follows the exploits (and sexploits) of a fictional rock band and their lead singer, Suzie (the slender and beautiful Shauna Grant) as they unhatch a plot to get rid of their manager, Z. W. (John Leslie) who has them under a long term contract.
SUZIE SUPERSTAR opens with Suzie and band performing on stage while Z. W. drives around with a couple of groupies (strawberry blonde Gail Sterling and dark haired Laurie Smith) in the backseat. He ditches the groupies and leaves them with his driver/tough guy, Raoul (Ron Jeremy) who manages to get these gals to fuck him in the back seat.

The plot for SUZIE SUPERSTAR gets sillier as it moves along so the wonderful xxx performances of Shauna Grant and Laura Lazare that are crammed into the middle of Mc Callum's film are the main reasons to check out this DVD re-release.
Other irritants are Z. W.'s stupid golf outfits, dialog about golf that no one understands, his putting in his office.
The last 30 minutes of SUZIE SUPERSTAR is rather sparse interms of xxx action, so kudos to Mc Callum for putting so much effort into the shower scene so that SUZIE SUPERSTAR ends with a bang.
Final rating for SUZIE SUPERSTAR (1984, Cal Vista; 2008, VCX-Cal Vista Classic re-release) is !!! 1/2 outa !!!!! It's a far cry from Mc Callum's best work, something like V-The Hot One (!!!!! outa !!!!!) that blended xxx sex and story in a fascinating way.
Extras include Artwork, Press Book and Slide Show features. Plus the usual Bonus Scenes and Trailers from other DVDs in VCX's Cal Vista Classic series.

The box office success of the "original" ALL American GIRLS – which actually perfected the recipe that started with Svetlana's "cupcake" carnality and perhaps even before that with Bob Chinn's PIZZA GIRLS, that of the "girlie show" (a case could also be made for this hearkening back as far as the "nudie cuties" of the '60s, but I digress) – proved so tremendous that Bill Milling could not resist setting up a sequel of sorts. Three more were to follow (UP, UP AND AWAY, HEART THROBS and ORIENTAL JADE) but number 2 pretty much had them all licked in terms of visual beauty, courtesy of returning DoP Ken Gibb and one of the prettiest female casts ever assembled.
Foreshadowing some of the more convoluted further installments, a little more conflict has been added to the stew, a welcome reminder that Milling – especially in his "Philip Drexler Jr." period – was once a great plot-Meister with the likes of SATIN SUITE and BLONDE IN BLACK SILK. Before this gets you hyperventilating, there's still a bunch of former sorority sisters gathering several years after graduation, this time on a luxurious yacht cruising the South Pacific with actual location shooting taking place at Hawaii, Tahiti and Bora Bora. It's just that one of the girls, Laura (the late Shauna Grant at the height of her peachy perfection), is having relationship problems with errant boyfriend Brad (Blake Palmer, well before the hairline receded and the waistline careened out of control) who basically screws anything with a pulse, including scheming "best friend" Kimberly (future superstar Debi Diamond in her "Shelly Rey" stage). A captive audience for the girls' reminiscences is this time provided by Tom Byron, who fell overboard and is saved by the lovelies who want him to be the judge as to whose story turns him on the most.
This time, Milling can't quite avoid the trap he so deftly sidestepped on the first episode with scenery occasionally overwhelming the invariably photogenic if rather less energetic sex taking place before it. Cute Karen Summer, a very good actress as she would prove in Kirdy Stevens' TABOO IV & V, performs a memorable slow motion deep throat number on bus driver Ron Jeremy's sizable member as an excuse for why she almost literally missed the boat. Sweet Shauna couples well with Paul Thomas (see also John Seeman's underrated VIRGINIA) as the drifter she found sleeping in a hayloft at her aunt's farm in Ireland and does a splendid Sapphic with Diamond that can't be beat for sheer visual beauty. By elaborating on the premises that generate the sex scenes, Milling definitely sacrifices some of the heat however. Ironically, the only other really good number involves stunning Rosa Lee Kimball – most memorable in Chinn's riotous THE YOUNG LIKE IT HOT – giving Tommy Byron his well-deserved prize. If all you're in the market for is sexy eye candy though, this one's still extremely hard to beat.

Made when Marilyn Chambers had some real star power in the adult film world, this was an ambitious movie with a big budget. But many a porn auteur had tried to make that great flick that will stand up to the legitimate films and failed in the attempt. This one doesn't make it either. In the end, fans will judge it as usual, on the sex action.
Marilyn plays an aspiring country singer willing to work hard to make it big. She's not averse to sleeping her way to the top, since as far as she's concerned, that's doing it on her own terms. Her scenes with Herschel Savage and with Tom Byron and another guy are personal favorites.
From the acting standpoint, the show is stolen by Lisa De Leeuw, who by this point in her career was one of porn's best thespians. She plays a boozing, over-the hill singer, and sadly, she was beginning to look the part a little. But it made for a good performance and she could sing better than Marilyn as well.
This movie was shown in its uncut version, in one intended for the Playboy Channel and such, and even a tamer version for networks like Showtime. Guess which one I'd recommend.

"Taboo" was made in the golden age of the adult feature, when producers and directors cared about the product they released to the public, even the actors and actress' gave an attempt (if just an attempt) to deliver their lines with conviction.
This fine feature tells the story of Barbara Scott (played by the beautiful Kay Parker, a true legend of X-Rated cinema), an average suburban housewife who at the beginning of the film is dumped by her husband and who starts an affair with her teenaged son Paul. Juliet Anderson (of Aunt Peg fame)and Dorothy Le MAy also star.
"Taboo" is filled with highly erotic sex scenes right out of an Anais Ninn novel, which proves my point, a point that I've been trying to prove for years that true erotisism comes not only from the sex act shown but also the situation. Something that the current crop of pornographers have seem to have forgotten. Paul Thomas is the only director in recent years to harken back to the glory days. The days of John Holmes and Alex deRenzy... I'm as much of a fan of straight up sex as the next guy, I know that's were I contradict myself but... show me a little something. I know that a lot of the so called "hardcore porn fans" hate the Vivid company for not being hard enough, they would rather watch the likes of Max Steiener or Seymore Butts and that's fine for them, but I still believe that Vivid (and Wicked) is turning out the finest porn on the market today...
Talking strictly action, the hottest scene in "Taboo" is the second scene that feature Kay and Mike Ranger (who plays Paul).

When one speaks of classic adult cinema and the films from this era that stand head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd these four films immediately come to mind Deep Throat, The Devil in Miss Jones, Debbie Does Dallas and Behind the Green Door. During this era in Adult cinema plot were just more than filler between the sex scenes. Artie Mitchell and Jim Mitchell were two of adult cinema’s first Auteur’s with the way they approached sex films with their innovative techniques and emphasis’s of character and plot.
Behind the Green Door’s first sexual encounter does not happen tell almost twenty minutes into the film. Once the sex starts the remainder of the film is wall to wall sexual action with a forty minute chunk of the film devoted to one prolonged live sex act involving the films lead character Gloria Saunders who is portrayed by Marilyn Chambers. This scene which follows Gloria’s abduction starts off with a more soft core tone before climaxing into a full on hardcore film. The ways in which the sex scenes are framed earlier on in the film obscure some of the penetration with the only unobstructed hardcore content being more oral related. The film features only one money shot and it is without a doubt one of the most elaborated ever committed to celluloid. The money shot is show in slow motion with weird psychedelic like colors saturating the frame and most of the moneys shots are repeated for effect. This climax sequence to the live sex show last nearly six minutes.
In the lead role is Marilyn Chambers who had very little acting experience before this film with her claim to fame at that point being the model on an Ivory Snow box. Performance Marilyn Chambers is basically a prop that is by the Mitchell brothers’ to the greatest effect. That is not to say that her performance is not without its own merits she is not given much to work with dialog and character wise. Besides the main sex scene there is only one other sex scene which ends the film and this scene also features Marilyn Chambers. It is reported that Marilyn Chambers was paid $25,000 and given 1% of the films gross profit. Not a bad deal since the film is estimated to have grossed around 50 million dollars to date and it only cost $50,000 to make. Graphically Behind the screen door is tame compared to today’s adult cinema and its near twenty minute set up might drive many potential viewers’ away from a truly unique adult cinematic experience.
The DVD:
Behind the Green Door is presented in its original 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The colors and flesh tones look accurate throughout. Details look crisp and black levels look strong. This transfer does have some mild print damage in the form of debris, nicks and starches. The print damage is never excessive or intrusive. Outside of someone doing a major restoration to clean up every frame this is the best this film is most likely going to look when its age and condition of the source material are factor in.
This release comes with one audio option a Dolby Digital mono mix in English. Outside of a few audio drop outs the audio mix is more than serviceable.
The only extra content include is a slide show with images taken from the main feature.
Behind the Green Door is widely recognized as one of the most important adult films ever made and it is a shame that more extra content hasn’t been included with this barebones release for the film.

Linda Lovelace (real name Linda Susan Boreman, born 1949 in New York) was the first porno superstar, infamous for this film, but never reaching the height of it's success again with any of her other films like Linda Lovelace For President (1976) where a band of officials cannot decide on a presidential candidate until someone jokes about using Linda Lovelace which they then proceed to do. Adam Film World's Best Picture of the Year are the raves on the front DVD sleeve of VCX's re-release of Robert Mc Callum's SUZIE SUPERSTAR, (1984, Cal Vista) part of VCX's Cal Vista Classic DVD series. This standard frame presentation looks great and the sound is fine.Robert McCallum directed close to 150 titles in the 1970s, 80s and 90s but more than 2/3 of these productions are from after 1985, when many xxx features switched from film to video. So, this DVD re-release should please the many who enjoyed Mc Callum's film work.
The prolific Mc Callum receives both director and cinematographer credit for SUZIE SUPERSTAR and it's a solid all-around film production that follows the exploits (and sexploits) of a fictional rock band and their lead singer, Suzie (the slender and beautiful Shauna Grant) as they unhatch a plot to get rid of their manager, Z. W. (John Leslie) who has them under a long term contract.
SUZIE SUPERSTAR opens with Suzie and band performing on stage while Z. W. drives around with a couple of groupies (strawberry blonde Gail Sterling and dark haired Laurie Smith) in the backseat. He ditches the groupies and leaves them with his driver/tough guy, Raoul (Ron Jeremy) who manages to get these gals to fuck him in the back seat.

The plot for SUZIE SUPERSTAR gets sillier as it moves along so the wonderful xxx performances of Shauna Grant and Laura Lazare that are crammed into the middle of Mc Callum's film are the main reasons to check out this DVD re-release.
Other irritants are Z. W.'s stupid golf outfits, dialog about golf that no one understands, his putting in his office.
The last 30 minutes of SUZIE SUPERSTAR is rather sparse interms of xxx action, so kudos to Mc Callum for putting so much effort into the shower scene so that SUZIE SUPERSTAR ends with a bang.
Final rating for SUZIE SUPERSTAR (1984, Cal Vista; 2008, VCX-Cal Vista Classic re-release) is !!! 1/2 outa !!!!! It's a far cry from Mc Callum's best work, something like V-The Hot One (!!!!! outa !!!!!) that blended xxx sex and story in a fascinating way.

The box office success of the "original" ALL American GIRLS – which actually perfected the recipe that started with Svetlana's "cupcake" carnality and perhaps even before that with Bob Chinn's PIZZA GIRLS, that of the "girlie show" (a case could also be made for this hearkening back as far as the "nudie cuties" of the '60s, but I digress) – proved so tremendous that Bill Milling could not resist setting up a sequel of sorts. Three more were to follow (UP, UP AND AWAY, HEART THROBS and ORIENTAL JADE) but number 2 pretty much had them all licked in terms of visual beauty, courtesy of returning DoP Ken Gibb and one of the prettiest female casts ever assembled.
Foreshadowing some of the more convoluted further installments, a little more conflict has been added to the stew, a welcome reminder that Milling – especially in his "Philip Drexler Jr." period – was once a great plot-Meister with the likes of SATIN SUITE and BLONDE IN BLACK SILK. Before this gets you hyperventilating, there's still a bunch of former sorority sisters gathering several years after graduation, this time on a luxurious yacht cruising the South Pacific with actual location shooting taking place at Hawaii, Tahiti and Bora Bora. It's just that one of the girls, Laura (the late Shauna Grant at the height of her peachy perfection), is having relationship problems with errant boyfriend Brad (Blake Palmer, well before the hairline receded and the waistline careened out of control) who basically screws anything with a pulse, including scheming "best friend" Kimberly (future superstar Debi Diamond in her "Shelly Rey" stage). A captive audience for the girls' reminiscences is this time provided by Tom Byron, who fell overboard and is saved by the lovelies who want him to be the judge as to whose story turns him on the most.
This time, Milling can't quite avoid the trap he so deftly sidestepped on the first episode with scenery occasionally overwhelming the invariably photogenic if rather less energetic sex taking place before it. Cute Karen Summer, a very good actress as she would prove in Kirdy Stevens' TABOO IV & V, performs a memorable slow motion deep throat number on bus driver Ron Jeremy's sizable member as an excuse for why she almost literally missed the boat. Sweet Shauna couples well with Paul Thomas (see also John Seeman's underrated VIRGINIA) as the drifter she found sleeping in a hayloft at her aunt's farm in Ireland and does a splendid Sapphic with Diamond that can't be beat for sheer visual beauty. By elaborating on the premises that generate the sex scenes, Milling definitely sacrifices some of the heat however. Ironically, the only other really good number involves stunning Rosa Lee Kimball – most memorable in Chinn's riotous THE YOUNG LIKE IT HOT – giving Tommy Byron his well-deserved prize. If all you're in the market for is sexy eye candy though, this one's still extremely hard to beat.

Made when Marilyn Chambers had some real star power in the adult film world, this was an ambitious movie with a big budget. But many a porn auteur had tried to make that great flick that will stand up to the legitimate films and failed in the attempt. This one doesn't make it either. In the end, fans will judge it as usual, on the sex action.
Marilyn plays an aspiring country singer willing to work hard to make it big. She's not averse to sleeping her way to the top, since as far as she's concerned, that's doing it on her own terms. Her scenes with Herschel Savage and with Tom Byron and another guy are personal favorites.
From the acting standpoint, the show is stolen by Lisa De Leeuw, who by this point in her career was one of porn's best thespians. She plays a boozing, over-the hill singer, and sadly, she was beginning to look the part a little. But it made for a good performance and she could sing better than Marilyn as well.
This movie was shown in its uncut version, in one intended for the Playboy Channel and such, and even a tamer version for networks like Showtime. Guess which one I'd recommend.

"Taboo" was made in the golden age of the adult feature, when producers and directors cared about the product they released to the public, even the actors and actress' gave an attempt (if just an attempt) to deliver their lines with conviction.
This fine feature tells the story of Barbara Scott (played by the beautiful Kay Parker, a true legend of X-Rated cinema), an average suburban housewife who at the beginning of the film is dumped by her husband and who starts an affair with her teenaged son Paul. Juliet Anderson (of Aunt Peg fame)and Dorothy Le MAy also star.
"Taboo" is filled with highly erotic sex scenes right out of an Anais Ninn novel, which proves my point, a point that I've been trying to prove for years that true erotisism comes not only from the sex act shown but also the situation. Something that the current crop of pornographers have seem to have forgotten. Paul Thomas is the only director in recent years to harken back to the glory days. The days of John Holmes and Alex deRenzy... I'm as much of a fan of straight up sex as the next guy, I know that's were I contradict myself but... show me a little something. I know that a lot of the so called "hardcore porn fans" hate the Vivid company for not being hard enough, they would rather watch the likes of Max Steiener or Seymore Butts and that's fine for them, but I still believe that Vivid (and Wicked) is turning out the finest porn on the market today...
Talking strictly action, the hottest scene in "Taboo" is the second scene that feature Kay and Mike Ranger (who plays Paul).

Synopsis: A young woman named Gloria is abducted while on vacation. She is taken to a club known as the Green Door where a voyeuristic audience watches a live sex show where she is the main attraction. Will the experience leave her scared for life or will it awaken her sexual desires?
When one speaks of classic adult cinema and the films from this era that stand head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd these four films immediately come to mind Deep Throat, The Devil in Miss Jones, Debbie Does Dallas and Behind the Green Door. During this era in Adult cinema plot were just more than filler between the sex scenes. Artie Mitchell and Jim Mitchell were two of adult cinema’s first Auteur’s with the way they approached sex films with their innovative techniques and emphasis’s of character and plot.
Behind the Green Door’s first sexual encounter does not happen tell almost twenty minutes into the film. Once the sex starts the remainder of the film is wall to wall sexual action with a forty minute chunk of the film devoted to one prolonged live sex act involving the films lead character Gloria Saunders who is portrayed by Marilyn Chambers. This scene which follows Gloria’s abduction starts off with a more soft core tone before climaxing into a full on hardcore film. The ways in which the sex scenes are framed earlier on in the film obscure some of the penetration with the only unobstructed hardcore content being more oral related. The film features only one money shot and it is without a doubt one of the most elaborated ever committed to celluloid. The money shot is show in slow motion with weird psychedelic like colors saturating the frame and most of the moneys shots are repeated for effect. This climax sequence to the live sex show last nearly six minutes.
In the lead role is Marilyn Chambers who had very little acting experience before this film with her claim to fame at that point being the model on an Ivory Snow box. Performance Marilyn Chambers is basically a prop that is by the Mitchell brothers’ to the greatest effect. That is not to say that her performance is not without its own merits she is not given much to work with dialog and character wise. Besides the main sex scene there is only one other sex scene which ends the film and this scene also features Marilyn Chambers. It is reported that Marilyn Chambers was paid $25,000 and given 1% of the films gross profit. Not a bad deal since the film is estimated to have grossed around 50 million dollars to date and it only cost $50,000 to make. Graphically Behind the screen door is tame compared to today’s adult cinema and its near twenty minute set up might drive many potential viewers’ away from a truly unique adult cinematic experience.
The DVD:
Behind the Green Door is presented in its original 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The colors and flesh tones look accurate throughout. Details look crisp and black levels look strong. This transfer does have some mild print damage in the form of debris, nicks and starches. The print damage is never excessive or intrusive. Outside of someone doing a major restoration to clean up every frame this is the best this film is most likely going to look when its age and condition of the source material are factor in.
This release comes with one audio option a Dolby Digital mono mix in English. Outside of a few audio drop outs the audio mix is more than serviceable.
The only extra content include is a slide show with images taken from the main feature.
Behind the Green Door is widely recognized as one of the most important adult films ever made and it is a shame that more extra content hasn’t been included with this barebones release for the film.
