Q : Christmas is coming, what are we celebrating? What does this event mean to us ?
A : .............................................................................................
A. Christmas is a Love Story
1. The Great Love of GOD > The Rescue plan
John 3:16
16 "For God so Loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
1 John 4 : 9-10
9 "This is how God showed his love among us. He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins
Think of :
1. The size/degree of GOD's love / How precious we are in the sight of GOD
2. GOD's way of showing HIS love to the world
3. The Rescue Plan / The Grand plan of Salvation Chrismas is the beginning of the GREAT grand plan of Salvation - RESCUE project
Rescue Plan - World Salvation Project > Starred by Jesus Directed by GOD The Father
2. The Reason For Sacrifice - Justice : someone has to pay
GOD's holiness demands the punishment of sins
Leviticus 4:35b - in this way the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven
Hebrew 9:22 - in fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no fogiveness
The Condition of the World > Needing a solution
Rome 3:23 - For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of GOD
The Acts of Sacrifice - as a subtitute
John 15:13 - Greater love has no one that this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
1 Peter 2 :24 - He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed
3. FORGIENESS of sins - the essence
Letting go of hate, resentment, because of an offense (breaking of Law)
The normal conditions of forgiveness > repentance > the willingness to pay the price to make reparation or atonement
The result / effect of Forgiveness
> the restoration of both parties to the former state of relationship
Act 13:38 - Therefore my brothers, i want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you
Colossians 1 : 13-14 - For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
B. Forgiveness as an act of LOVE
1. We forgive others as a sign of obedience - as a proff we love GOD
John 14:15 - if you love me, you will obey what i command
John 14:21 - Whoever has my comands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and i too will love him and show myself to him
GOD's commands
Matthew 6:12 - Forgive us our debs, as we also have forgiven our debtors
Matthew 6:14-15 - For if you fogive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins
Matthew 5:23-25 - Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you. leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift
Matthew 5:44 -Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you
2. We forgive as we are forgiven
Ephesians 4:32 - Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
>to remember how much God has forgiven you.
The Lord's prayer - "Forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us."
3. We forgive for our own benefit - for our own welfare - it is healing our emotional
Hebrew 12:1 - Throw off all the garbage! - anger, bitterness, hurt disappointment
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverane the race marked out for us
Psalm 133 - unity that comes from the act of forgiveness> blessing
How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity. It is like precous oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down upon the collar of his robes. It is if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing even life forevermore
4. We forgive because it helps the forgiven to be a better person
2 Cor 5:17-18 - a new creation - what we sow is what we reap
Therefore - if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has some!. All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconcilliation
Moment of Reflection
Having realized GOD's great love for us, in giving His one and only son to die for our sins that we may have eternal life (when we believe in Jesus)
1. Do you feel that you are precious in the eyes of GOD ?
2. Would you want to make peace with GOD, by forgiing others - no matter how bad the persons may have hurt you / disappoint you - as a sign of love to GOD - for our orn welfare - for the good of the person who has done us wrong.
3. Ask the grace of GOD to enable us to forgive!
4. Let's start the year ahead anew !
