Capturing the dark humor of Czech author Michal Viewegh's chronicle of life after the Velvet Revolution, this black comedy chronicles three decades in the life of a small Czech family. While the original novel centered on the protagonist Kvido from his conception through his adulthood, first time director Petr Nikolaev and screenwriter Jan Novak changed the focus to his parents Milena, an extremely self-effacing lawyer who acts on stage in her spare time, and Ales, a rather aimless government worker who tends to drift wherever the wind takes him. The lives of Ales and Milena change dramatically following the Russian invasion of Prague in 1968. Wanting to get away from the ensuing heat, Ales quits his job and moves to the country. Without the protection of Party membership, he and his brood are forced to live on the summer porch of a locked home until young Kvido reads a pro-communist speech at school. Ales's new job necessitates frequent travel abroad and it is during just such a journey that he indulges in a brief affair. Back at home, Kvido rekindles a relationship with an old flame. One night Ales gets caught meeting with a dissident writer and ends up demoted to gatekeeper. He goes into a deep funk until Kvido heeds his mother's suggestion and presents Ales with a grandchild, or at least what appears to be his grandchild. Description: The uncompromising director Vera Chytilová, well-known for her harshly mocking attacks on people's failings and foibles, has created a new filmic parable on human weakness with Vyhnání z ráje (Expulsion from Paradise, 2001), her most recent film. Although fully within the Chytilová tradition of biting moral fable, the film has had a lukewarm reception from Czech and international critics.

The main story of Vyhnání z ráje concerns Rosta, a film director (Bolek Polívka), who is shooting a film at a nudist beach.[2] Everyone in the film crew has different ideas about the genre and style of the film being shot: The director tries to create an artistic work, an experimental metaphor about Adam and Eve; the Russian producer Igor (Milan Šteindler) hopes to see an erotic lovestory produced; and the screenwriter (played by theatre director and dramatist J A Pitínský) aims to express his positive philosophy about humanity through the film.

The fictive film within the film is called Paradiso, but it seems more like a hell than paradise. Monstrous naked bodies lie on the beach as if in a tableau from the apocalypse. We watch the director in a state of personal crisis. He experiences misunderstandings with his wife (played by French actress and Polívka's ex-wife Chantal Poullain) and also complications in the relationship with his lover (who is the daughter of Paradiso's producer and also happens to be the film's lead actress). The respective stories of each character in Vyhnání z ráje do not add up to a coherent unit but rather make up a mosaic that Chytilová uses to create a picture of moral decline.

Plot
This sometimes confusing erotic drama about the incestuous relationship of a mother and daughter is based on the

autobiography of Italian theater actress Piera Degli Esposti though it focuses more on her mother Eugenia (Hanna Schygulla).

The liberated Eugenia and her spaced-out, husband (Marcello Mastroianni) -- a professor -- live in a small provincial Italian

town, where Eugenia is noticed as she zooms around on her bicycle and chats up strangers at the train station. While still no

more than a grown child, Piera -- in tight dresses -- goes with her mother for a threesome when she engages in sexual

relations with other men and subsequently suffers both from poor health and the lack of a normal home. The shadow of the

future already clouds the household when Eugenia is committed again and again to the psychiatric clinic. By the time Piera

has become an adult, both of her parents are in separate mental hospitals -- and both (even the father) are still sexually

Description: A young man is confined in a mental hospital. Through a flashback we see that he was traumatized as a child, when he and his family were circus performers: he saw his father cut off the arms of his mother, a religious fanatic and leader of the heretical church of Santa Sangre ("Holy Blood"), and then commit suicide. The story revolves around 10-year-old Øystein and his father, Per, and their relationships with women. Per is a single father who is attracted to Øystein's teacher, Ida, and Øystein is attracted to Åse and Kari, two girls from his school. Øystein's best friend Trond is also in love...with Kari. The films begins with the boys skinny dipping and then having a peeing contest, all the while they're being spied on by Åse and Kari. This mutual act of "spying" has gone back a few years because the girls have, on occasion, gone skinny dipping in the same creek and the boys have had a peek or two in the past. Later on, in an act of curiosity and typical childish exploring, all four skinny dip together after mutually deciding that they "aren't too old to swim naked" and they have already seen each other nude. Øystein begins to grow very fond of Kari, and one day while playing a game in the forest, the two decide to try kissing. Suddenly, Øystein thinks he is about to be a father. It all sounds like a naughty film, but in reality it is all very innocent and gives the viewer the perspective of what it is like to be a child with a great imagination.
